Dorothy Margaret (Stady) Luney, 91, of Grand Forks, ND passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Woodside Village, Grand Forks, ND. Dorothy M. Stady was born on September 17, 1923 in Transcona, Manitoba. She attended business college in Winnipeg and worked as a secretary/bookeeper at several different businesses. Dorothy married John Luney on July 22, 1948 and moved to the USA. John and Dorothy lived in Albert Lea, MN where all 6 children were born, and then they made Grand Forks, ND their permanent home in 1968, when they became owners of H.E. Everson Welding Supply Co. They were married 56 years. Dorothy's lifelong passions were her family, playing golf, painting, and playing piano. She was involved in many community activities, including PTA, Boy Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, golf and bowling leagues and a volunteer for over 20 years at Altru hospital. Dorothy and John enjoyed spending time at their lake home at Island Lake, MN with their family, and traveling around the US, especially Hawaii and Arizona, where two of their children lived. We will all miss Dorothy's welcoming smile and listening ear. Until the end, she maintained her funny one-liners that endeared her to all that knew her. Dorothy was always ready to dance if music was playing. Her Valley 4000 friends became like a 2nd family to her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Luney, her parents and all her siblings, Bernice Uhrich, Eleanor Wakeman, and Addison Stady, all originally from Transcona, Canada. She is survived by all of her children, John Luney (Beverly) Honolulu, HI; Daniel Luney (Sharon) Grand Forks, ND; Corinne (Luney) Satrom (Jim) Grand Forks; ND, Ken Luney (Lori) Grand Forks, ND; Tom Luney (Patti) Grand Forks, ND; Mary Jane (Luney) Thomsen (Scott) South Lyon, MI. All her grandchildren, Kamela (Andrew) Bearlin, Kalena (Adam) Wold, Justin Luney, Matthew Luney, Shannon (Adam) Wiedman, Grant Satrom, Daniel Satrom, Jake Luney, Parker Luney, Trevor and Seth Thomsen, and great grandson Kieren Bearlin. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 on at 4000 Valley Square Havig-Heen Auditorium Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Valley Memorial Homes Foundation, Grand Forks, ND.
