Mary Lou Vanderlin

Mary Lou (Gessner) Vanderlin passed away on January 28th, 2015 due to complications from Parkinson's surrounded by her loving husband and children at the Northwood Deaconess Healthcare Center. Mary Louise was born January 14th, 1941 to Harold & Charlotte (Devier) Gessner at General Hospital in Devils Lake, ND. She was married on October 22nd, 1959 to her one and only love, Gerald Vanderlin. They have been together for over 55 years. Mary Lou's life revolved around her family and community. She was in her words "Chief cook and bottle washer" for many years at the Gilby Cafe and later became owner/operator. Many years were spent serving the area patrons delicious homemade meals and a little friendly sassiness as a side dish. She was also a City Council Member for 22 years. Serving the town in this manner was something she did with great pride. Mary Lou also enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother to Pack 80, CCD teacher, cake baker/decorator for all kinds of celebrations. As a devoted wife, sister, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many - her life was full and blessed. Survived by her husband, Gerald; sons, Kevin, Gilby, ND, Keith (Cynthia) Grand Forks, ND; daughters Kristie (Loren) Hoeper, Warroad, MN, Kelly(John) Fladland, Gilby, ND; grandchildren, Nathan (Kelli) Moen, Nickolas(Crystal) Moen, Craig (Kristina) Moen, Tasha Fladland (Brett) Dahl and Derek Fladland; Great-grandchildren, Brynn, Bentley, Brandon, Kaisley, Adam and Henry brother: Bernard (Judy) Gessner; sisters, Twin sister Margo(Richard)Van Leur, Charlotte(Jim) Hatlestad, Charlene(Al)Gault; sister-in-law, Pat Gessner and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by; infant son, Kenneth; her parents; in-laws, John and Ruth (Nash) Vanderlin, brother - John Henry Gessner; sister & brother-in-law Carol(Curtiss) Heustis; niece, Dawn Heustis In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her memory to the Gilby Fire & Rescue Department or the American Parkinson Disease Association FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at St. Timothy's in Manvel, ND. VISITATION: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday with a 3pm prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the service at the church.
