Avis O. Skinner of Grand Forks, ND passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, March 21st 2015 at Altru Hospital from complications due to pneumonia. Avis Ona Skinner was born April 30, 1939 in Webster, SD, the middle child of Olaf and Alma Brustuen. Avis graduated from Henning High School in 1957. She played her flute in the high school band and was a Henning Hornet cheerleader. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she played her flute in the band and acquired a BA in education and met her husband Tim Skinner. Avis and Tim were married in Webster, SD in 1960. Avis taught English at South Middle School for 29 years until she retired in 1997. She also was cheerleading advisor. Avis was very active in her community. She was a member of and served as a leader in many different organizations which include: Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, PEO, CLCW, Grand Forks City Band, Thursday Music Club, and a book club. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church for more than 40 years as a member of the choir, call committee, funeral and wedding committees. Avis volunteered her musical talents at Tufte Manor for many years. Even though Avis's family loved to golf, she found shopping much more enjoyable. She enjoyed socializing with her fitness group. Avis enjoyed cats, chocolate, sitting in the sun, working in the yard, playing the piano and flute, visiting with her grandchildren, and singing and listening to many different types of music. Avis is survived by her husband, Tim; son, Jeff (Mary), daughters, Jacquie Schaefer (Todd), all of Grand Forks; Kristi Gallucci (Joe) of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Nickolaus and Lindsay; Cam and Sophie; sibling Mary Goulet (Allan), of St Croix Falls, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sonja. Memorials are suggested to Thursday Music Club and Calvary Lutheran Church Choir. Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, March 26 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 South 9th Street, Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND
