Robert "Bob" H. Olson, 73, of Grand Forks, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by his family. Joseph Henry Compeau was born to Mary Compeau in Walhalla, ND on December 17, 1941. At the age of one year, Joseph was adopted by Orfield and Bertha (Gandy) Olson. His name was then changed to Robert Henry Olson and he moved to Langdon ND. Bob attended Elkwood School from grades 1-8 and went on to graduate from Langdon High School. After graduation, Bob joined the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1961-1962 as a munitions truck driver. Upon his discharge, Bob returned to Langdon where he met the love of his life, Sharon Braget. They were married in Walhalla on February 20, 1965 and then resided in Grand Forks. Bob was employed by the North Dakota State Mill prior to joining the underground crew at Nodak Rural Electric Cooperative in 1974. At his retirement, in 2004, Bob held the position of Underground Crew Foreman. The highlights of Bob's life were his children, Berta and Shelly, his sons-in-law, Tim and Heath and most especially his grandkids, Jake, Lisa and Casi. He enjoyed watching his three grandchildren's activities, programs and sports. He was an avid Twins fan, loved NASCAR and food and had a sense of humor that didn't end. No one who ever met Bob walked away without hearing a joke - appropriate or not. His latest goal (which he met with pride) was to reach 50 years of marriage with his biggest fan by his side. Bob and Sharon celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 20, 2015 surrounded by family. Once again, with family by his side and on HIS terms, Bob won his battle with COPD on March 28, 2015. Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughters Roberta (Tim) Yanish, Michelle (Heath) Sexton, grandson Jacob Yanish, granddaughters Lisa Yanish and Cassandra Sexton, his mother Bertha Olson, brothers Duane (Ruthann) Olson and Jim (Bonnie) Olson, sisters-in-law Bev Braget and Alana Hornbaker, brother-in-law Sheldon (Kay) Braget, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his birth mother Mary (Compeau) Vondal; an infant sister, Joanne; his great-grandmother Johanna Olson; father, Orfield Olson; father & mother-in-law Delorne and Ione Braget as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
