Allyn G Thompson

Allyn G. Thompson, 77, Grand Forks, ND died Friday, April 10, 2015 at home. Allyn was born January 23, 1938 in McVille, ND, the son of Gilbert and Marit (Amundson) Thompson. He attended schools in Kolten, ND and graduated from Kolten High School. Allyn worked as an orderly at the State Hospital of Jamestown, ND and later in St. Luke's Hospital of Fargo ND,and the McVille hospital ND. He owned and operated a gas station in McVille, ND before moving to Grand Forks where he operated the Phillip's 66 gas station, he worked as a mechanic at Hansen Ford, Absey Motors and Eide Motors. Allyn then owned and operated Al's Auto Repair in Grand Forks until his retirement in 2001. In his retirement, he worked at Sannes Antiques in Grand Forks. Allyn was instrumental in bringing many gun shows to Grand Forks and helped found the Coon and Crocket Muzzle Loaders Club. He also played in a local bluegrass group that met frequently in the cabin he built in 1979. The cabin became the birth place of a new passion he had, building custom saddles and restoration of guns and instruments. He also enjoyed restoring cars and motorcycles. Allyn married Lori Longerbone on June 6 1962. She survives along with their children, Alicia (Tom) Ackerson of Fargo ND, Eric (May) Thompson of East Grand Forks, and Ethan Thompson of Grand Forks; Grandchildren, Jayson (Lisa) Ackerson, and Travis (Ashley) Ackerson both of Fargo ND, and Edith Johnson of McVille ND. Allyn was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother and 3 sisters. Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
