Ruth C. Dobson

Ruth C. Dobson, 94, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Ruth was born and raised in Voss, North Dakota, the daughter of Wences and Elizabeth (Sobolik) Houdek. Ruth was united in marriage to T.W. (Bill) Dobson on October 26, 1937 in Veseleyville, North Dakota. From their union, five children were born: daughter Arlene and sons Eugene, Ardell, Donald, and Dennis. They raised their family in Voss on the family farm. Ruth briefly worked as a post master and then worked as a secretary at L.E. Tibert for a number of years until she retired and moved to Grand Forks in 1983. Sadly Bill passed away May 13, 1985. Ruth enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bingo, visiting family across the United States, and playing cards with friends especially the Minto Bridge Club. She was very active at the Grand Forks Senior Center and at her church, Zion United Methodist Church. Survivors include her 5 children Arlene (Eugene Mach), Gene Dobson, and Donald (Linda) Dobson of Grand Forks, ND, Ardell (Marilyn) Dobson of Phoenix, AZ, Dennis (Sharon) Dobson of Eagan, MN, 9 grandchildren Tammi (Marc) Price of Huntingtown, MD, Tom (Dina) Mach of Dagsboro, DE, Mike (Margaret) of Grand Forks, ND, Leann (Rick) Goss of Great Falls, MT, Dianne (Doug) Holtman of Crookston, MN, Karen (Brian) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy Dobson of Everett, WA, Kelly (Karen) Dobson of Oakhill, VA, Spencer Dobson of East Grand Forks, MN, 16 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and 3 siblings Al Houdek of Mahnomen, MN, Neon Houdek of St. Louis Park, MN, and Irene Couch of Bloomington, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband T.W. (Bill) Dobson, and 6 siblings. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church at 1001 24th Avenue South Grand Forks, North Dakota with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be in Minto City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to Altru Hospice at 1380 S. Columbia Road Grand Forks, ND 58201.
