David J. Pung, 92, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in 4000 Valley Square - Woodside Village Grand Forks. David Joseph Pung was born September 4, 1922 in Melrose, MN the son of Joseph and Louise (Mootz) Pung. He was raised and educated in St. Cloud, MN where he graduated from high school and technical school. In 1941, he came to Grand Forks to attend the University of North Dakota. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. David served in the U.S. Air Force from August of 1944 to September of 1946. He was a B-17 pilot and airplane commander for a nine person crew serving as a 1st Lieutenant with the 15th Air Force in Italy. After the war, he returned to college at UND. In 1950, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. David married Marlys Nickeson on August 19, 1950 in Grand Forks. They lived in Golden Valley, MN where David worked for many years in jewelry sales for Jewelmont, Co. They also spent many years together at their lake home on Fishtrap Lake, MN and winter months in Lake Havasu, AZ. David and Marlys returned to Grand Forks in 2004. Marlys died November 30, 2014. David's survivors include: a niece, Kerry Humphrey, Houston, TX, and a nephwew, Douglas Pung, Houston, TX. David was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlys and brother Don Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the half hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
