Dr. Michael W. Emmerich

Dr. Michael W. Emmerich, 68, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Valley Memorial Homes Transitional Care Unit. Michael Willard Emmerich was born in Grand Forks, ND to Willard Charles Emmerich and Ardis Marian (Johnson) Emmerich on November 6, 1946. At a young age he moved to Carrington, ND and attended school there. He later attended the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1969 from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Emmerich was a founder of Valley Vision Clinic in Grand Forks which opened April 1, 1970, and continued to practice optometry for 45 years in Grand Forks. Dr. Emmerich served on the North Dakota State Board of Optometry for 10 years. His hobbies include fishing and golf. He is survived by a brother, Mark (Kim) Emmerich, Dickinson, ND; nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Elisabeth), Emmerich, Minneapolis, MN, Maria (Josh) Hammond, Dickinson, ND, Mallory (John) Hanstad, Glendale, AZ, Joseph (Eva) Emmerich, Minneapolis, MN, Jay Emmerich, St. Paul, MN; special friend, Marla Hoff of Grand Forks and her family; the Doctors and Staff of Valley Vision Clinics of Grand Forks, ND, Hallock, and Ada, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Carrington, Cemetery, Carrington, ND. Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army, The Red Cross or the Charity of your choice.
