Nels G. Strande

Nels G. Strande, 94, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Nels Gerhard Strande, the son of Ivar and Thea (Struckness) Strande , was born March 2, 1921 in a Sears Roebuck house near Sharon, North Dakota. He attended school near Hatton, ND until age 9 when he moved to Northwood where he continued his education and graduated from Northwood High School. Nels worked in the shipyards at Bremerton, Washington. He later joined the Seabees and later served in the US Navy during World War II. After discharge from the military, Nels attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he had two years training in refrigeration service. He was employed by Bridgeman Creameries for almost 40 years, after retiring from Bridgeman. Nels went on to drive parts truck for Acme Electric over the next 17 years. Nels enjoyed Twins Baseball, Sioux Basketball and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Nels Strande and LaVera Dahley were united in marriage on June 6, 1954. She survives along with sons, Neil (Jody) Strande, and David (Janice) Strande, all of Grand Forks; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchlldren; brothers, Melvin (Vivian) Strande, Northwood, ND, and Marvin (Dolores) Strande, Hatton, ND; sister, Vivian Finnie, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Iver Strande and a sister, Gerda Strande. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment and Military Honors will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are preferred to Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.
