Margaret Jane Thompson died peacefully with family by her side at Altru Hospital on June 30, 2015 in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 86. Margaret was born on July 29, 1928 in Seattle, WA to Hendrick and Gerritdina Van De Kant. Following her father's death in 1928 her mother moved her and her 3 sisters to New Jersey to be closer to family. In 1940 Margaret's mother remarried and they relocated to West Salt Lake City, UT, where she married William John Marshall on Sept 13, 1954. Margaret's husband passed in 1965, in Salt Lake City, UT. Following her husband's death Margaret worked for Platex supporting her 4 children. On June 10, 1973 she married the love of her life Howard Thompson and the couple moved with her 3 younger children to Pelican Rapids, MN where she worked at Super Valu, Swan Drug and later owned an in home daycare. Margaret was a no nonsense individual who lived to take care of her family. She was beloved by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her children Ronald Howington; Pleasant View, UT, Patrick (Rebecca) Marshall; Farmington, UT, Lorie (Ron) Hanson; East Grand Forks, MN. 5 granddaughters, 5 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hendrick and Gerritdina Van De Kant; 1st husband, William John Marshall of Salt Lake City, UT; 2nd husband, Howard Thompson of Pelican Rapids, MN; son, William John Marshall of Moline, IL; a granddaughter, Stephanie Johnson of Moline, IL and 3 sisters, Geraldine, Katherine and Eva. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S 42nd St. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service. INTERMENT: Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN.
