Jane Palmer Messenger, 81, Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, July 5, 2015 in Maple View Memory Care Community of Grand Forks. Jane was born February 7, 1934 in West Virginia. She attended boarding school at the Maryland School for the Blind where she learned many life skills. Jane also earned a degree in early child development. She worked as a secretary at the Library of Congress. It was there that she met Theodore Messenger. Jane and Theodore were married February 7, 1963. They lived in Maine before coming to Grand Forks were Jane worked for many years at the Grand Forks School for the Blind. She also proofread and corrected braille books. Jane loved to cook, and in her younger days, she hosted many elaborate parties for guests in her home. She also enjoyed reading books in braille, talking books and listening to the television. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Paul) Rethemeier, Thompson, ND; son, Tim (Kema) Messenger III; grandchildren,Theodore IV and Nicholas. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 2008; her parents, and one brother. Memorial Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour before the service in the church.
