Oscar Bjerke

June 12, 1925 — July 19, 2015

Oscar P. Bjerke, 90, Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND. Oscar was born June 12, 1925 near Rindal, MN, the son of Gilbert and Inga (Lesetmo) Bjerke. He was raised on the family farm, and later worked for a trucking company. He moved to Grand Forks where he was employed with Summers Fertilizer and as a mechanic for Hoffert Motors. He worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for Rydell's. Aside from his work, Oscar was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially enjoyed deer hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards, wood working and playing his harmonica while listening to old time music. Oscar married Estelle Froelich on June 12, 1955 in Devils Lake. They spent many happy years together and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Oscar loved dancing with Estelle and they attended numerous dances at the Eagle's Club. One of their favorite dances together was the Waltz. Survivors include his wife, Estelle, Grand Forks; daughters, Linda (Jim) Wagner, Devils Lake, ND, Margaret "Margie" (Jerry) Seeba, Grand Forks, Kathleen (Stephen) Cremeans, Grand Forks; son, Jim (Wanda) Bjerke, Grand Forks; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Cox; grandson, Daniel and an infant grandson, Kerry; sisters, Irene Jelinek, Bernice Sudbury, Opal Lesetmo and an infant sister, Evelyn. Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Friday, July 24, 2015 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
