Gordon Hill

April 26, 1941 — July 22, 2015

Gordon J. Hill, 74, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of the Roseglen and Garrison, ND area, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Gordon John Hill was born April 26, 1941 in Minot, ND, the son of Arnold and Edith (Bjork) Hill. He was raised in Roseglen, ND and attended elementary school in a country school and White Shield School. Gordon graduated from Garrison High School in 1959. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Minot State College in 1963. Gordon took over the family farm and was a lifelong farmer in the Roseglen area. He also was a Social Studies and Biology teacher in Westhope, Makoti, and Garrison, ND. Gordon served in the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1977. He was a longtime member of the Garrison Cenex board. He served as President of the Garrison Lion's Club and was a recipient of the Lions Clubs International Foundation's Melvin Jones Fellow award. He also served on the boards of the McLean Manor and Camp of The Cross, and was a church council member at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Roseglen and St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Garrison. Gordon was a master of fixing things. He enjoyed woodworking, doing crossword puzzles, and telling stories. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Gordon married Julie Scheid on June 14, 1969 in Hazen, ND. She survives along with son, Jon (Becky) Hill, Spearfish, SD; daughter, Kristine (Hans) Sande, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Isaac, Olivia and Emma Hill and Curtis Sande; sisters, Ardys (Don) Morris, Bismarck, ND and Norma (Glenn) Berg, Minot, ND; "exchangeable daughters" (exchange students) Micky Langschwager, Hamburg, Germany and Stina Anderson, Gothenburg, Sweden. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth Hill and Royce Hill. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2015 in Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND.
