Karen W. Griffin

Karen W. Griffin, age 78, of Grand Forks, ND passed away July 25, 2015 at Altru Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Karen was born in Minot, ND on May 28, 1937 to James and Carrie Brett. The family moved to Grand Forks. She attended Roosevelt , South Junior and graduated from Central High School in 1955. She enrolled at UND and pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. Karen was united in marriage to Jerry Griffin on October 6, 1956. They made their home in Grand Forks and raised four children. She was active in the Jaycee's, worked as an aide in the school system and retired from Sears in 2002. Karen was a devoted wife, mom and grandma. She cherished spending time with her family. She enjoyed books, music, socializing with her friends and staying active. Karen is survived by her husband, Jerry, children; Jeff (Terry), Steven (Susan), David (Mary) , Susan (Scott) Woods, brother; James (Ruth) Brett, sisters; Virginia (Fred) Stewart, Margaret (Art) Hillman and 15 grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother, John Brett. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Altru Cancer Center. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Grand Forks, ND. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the church. INURNMENT: Memorial Park North Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND.
