Ruth D. Dyer

Ruth Dorothy Dyer, age 96, of Grand Forks, ND, formally of Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Ruth was born April 25, 1919 in Shelly, MN, daughter of Mayne and Selma (Nornes) Mauritson. She graduated from Climax High School in 1935 and received her nursing diploma from Eitel Hospital, School of Nursing, Minneapolis in 1940. She married 1st Lieutenant Merrill Dyer in 1943 while serving as a 2nd Lieutenant Army Nurse during WWII in Hot Springs, AR. Along with volunteer service with the Red Cross, Ruth was the hospital nursing supervisor at St. Ansgars Hospital in Moorhead, MN for 26 years. She was a nationally award-winning knitter, making hundreds of intricate sweaters and afghans for family and friends. Ruth was a loyal fan of UND Sioux hockey, the Twins, the Vikings, Lawrence Welk and the many programs of North Dakota's Prairie Public Television. Ruth is survived by her brother, Herb Mauritson of Shelly, MN; a son, Maurice Dyer of Elgin, IL; daughters, Beverly Larson (Robert) Dean of Onalaska, WI, and Marsha (Paul) Waind of Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronald and his wife Sandy Dyer; daughter-in-law, Meri (Maurice) Dyer; granddaughter, Shelly Argenbright of Fisherville, Virgina; parents; brothers, James and Chester; and sisters, Irene Hermodson and baby Lorraine. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday in the Veterans Garden section of Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND. Memorials are preferred to Prairie Public Television in lieu of flowers.
