Rose Marie Monteith On August 9, 2015, Rose Marie Monteith passed away peacefully in her sleep at Valley ElderCare in Grand Forks, ND. Rosy is at rest with her best friendour Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rosy was born October 4, 1926 at Devils Lake, ND. She was one of seven children born to Gustav and Emma (Swenson) Pershke. She graduated from Crary High School, attended Mayville State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Education degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Dakota. She taught elementary school at Hope Consolidated School, Leeds Public School and many years in the Devils Lake Public Schools. On June 26, 1949, she married Garner (Gunny) Monteith in Devils Lake. They established their home and business (Monteith Meat Service) there and were active in their church and community. They were charter members of Our Saviors Lutheran. They also enjoyed their days of travel and spending winters in Texas and Arizona. After Gunny died in 1992, Rosy moved to Grand Forks and became an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church. Rosy was an amazing woman who lived out her faith and was always a teacher. She was a frequent volunteer for her community and church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was involved in Bible Studies into her 80s. While surviving breast cancer for over 30 years, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society's "Reach for Recovery" program encouraging other women facing cancer. She volunteered for years with North Dakota's SHIC (State Health Insurance Counseling) helping senior citizens with the maze of medical bills. She also delivered Meals on Wheels. She is survived by daughters---Donna (Ron Mattson) of Grand Forks and Diane (Tim Fellows) of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. Grandchildren: Troy (Marsha), Jim, Tara, and Emily (Seth Dallman) and great grandchildren: Morgan and Brooke Mattson. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, parents, four sisters, and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at Sharon Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11AM with visitation one hour before the service. Service of Committal will be at the Lakota Cemetery.
