Thomas D. (Tom) Nerby passed away peacefully at his home in Gilbert, Arizona on August 12, 2015. He was 95 years old. Tom was one of nine children born to Charles and Margaret (Bouchre) Nerby on December 6, 1919. He attended school in Forest River, ND and also received a 2 year Business degree from Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks, ND. Tom ran his own restaurant, The Parkway Cafe and ran his own construction company, TD Construction. He married Dody Nichols on July 29, 1944. They had 5 children. Dody passed away September 3, 1974. On February 1, 1978 Tom marred Ellen Hoverson. Ellen passed away January 11, 2009. Tom entered the Army on February 17, 1941 serving in France, Belgium, Austria and Germany. He was honorably discharged October 22, 1945. He served as a mess sergeant and received multiple ribbons including Good Conduct ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon. He also received numerous medals including 2 bronze campaign stars and combat infantry badge. Tom is survived by his 5 children: Clif (Marsha) Nerby of East Grand Forks, MN; Lee Lawrence of Las Vegas, NV; Bonnie (Martin) McNamee of Gand Forks, ND; Dorene Coop of Gilbert, AZ; and Tommy of Mesa, AZ. Along with 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, brother Charles and Dale Nerby. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daniel, Gilbert, Louis and sisters Alice, Fern and Ida. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd Street, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
