Stanley Erik Sand

Stanley Erik Sand, age 89, passed away Thursday Sept. 17, 2015 at Wheatland Terrace in Grand Forks surrounded by his children. Stanley was born on July 9, 1926, the son of Erik and Helen (Grant) Sand of rural Emerado. He was baptized and confirmed at the Emerado Presbyterian Church. He attended school at Oakville #41 in Emerado and graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks. He married Darlyne Nelson of Emerado on May 12, 1951. Stanley was a self taught electrician who was ambitious and always trying to learn something new, even on the farm. He studied to be an electrician and after passing his test he wired most of rural Grand Forks County during the 1950's. He was known as "Stan Sand the Wireman". He later opened up a Butler dealership in Emerado known as Sand Steel Buildings. His company literally constructed hundreds of grain bins across the country. He won many awards nationally for being an outstanding Butler dealer. He later became more focused on commercial buildings including Polaris, Marvin Windows, Motorcoach Industries and many more. He retired in 1986 and sold his business to Harry Anderson and Mark Solseng. Stan and Darlyne spent their winters in Florida and summers in North Dakota. He recently moved into Wheatland Terrace assisted living in Grand Forks where he found his second home. He made many friends there and had wonderful caregivers, from the Wheatland CNA girls to Dr. Judy from Hospice - He felt blessed. Stanley is survived by four children, Diane (Larry) Young of Mayville, Dana Sand of Emerado, Steven (Sandy) Sand of Grand Forks and Merry Helen Sand of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Justin (Mindy) Young of Pasco, WA; Brittany (Shane) Stevenson of Portland, ND, Shane (Sarah) Sand of Emerado, ND and Shannon (Aaron) Hunter of Rockford, MN; great-grandchildren, Maguire and Cruz Young, Hadlee and Briggs Stevenson, Spencer and Brayden Sand and Grayson Hunter; sisters, Edith Siewert of Grand Forks, Dorothy Engh of St. Paul, MN, Marian Askim of Minot, ND and Phylis Croonenbergh of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlyne; son, Robin and brothers, Floyd & Lawrence Sand. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
