Roger Bergland

Roger W. Bergland, 82, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Roger was born June 28, 1933 in Grand Forks, the son of Jacob and Josie Bergland. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1951. While in high school, Roger spent one summer working in Yellowstone National Park. He later lived and worked in California. Roger returned to Grand Forks where he worked as a fire fighter for the Grand Forks Fire Department until the time of his retirement. He also worked for Rux Painting and United Van Lines. Survivors include his daughter, Laura (Kenneth) Peterson, Oklahoma City, OK; son, Brian Bergland, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Heather Greenfield and Matthew Peterson; Brother Jarl (Ruth ) Bergland, Harlingen, TX; sister, Judith (Terry) Salo, Great Falls, MT; and a very special friend and close companion, Marlene Siewert, Grand Forks. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Marlys on November 17, 2005. Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2015 in the Freedom Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery of Grand Forks.
