Bruce Marden

Bruce E. Marden, 60, Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, October 8, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Bruce Edward Marden was born March 4, 1955 in Williston, ND, the son of Edward and Ruby (Knudsvig) Marden. At a young age, his family moved to Powers Lake, ND where Bruce was raised and educated. He attended school and worked at Cenex until graduating from high school in 1973. He worked for a construction company in Montana, and later lived and worked in Bottineau, ND and Wahpeton, ND before moving to Grand Forks. In Grand Forks Bruce worked as a tire expert at Cenex. In 1977 he married Phyllis (Wang) and they went on to make Grand Forks their home and raise their family. He then started working for Shade Tree Service Company and then Scott's Inc. where he began his occupation as a truck dispatcher. He later formed a partnership establishing Prairie Lines Transportation which he owned and operated until his retirement on August 31, 2015. Bruce loved the outdoors and sports, especially time spent hunting with family and friends, playing for, managing and sponsoring a softball team and a passion for his garden that flourished with his loving care. He later developed a passion for golf and made great memories with family and friend during his time on the course. His greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren. Bruce is survived by his wife, Phyllis, Grand Forks: daughter, Nicole (Eric) Ness, Moorhead, MN; son, Kyle (Ashley) Marden, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Ian Ness, Lauren Ness and Camden Marden; brothers, Kevin (Linda), Powers Lake, ND, Mike (Eric), Carver, MN, Eddie, Powers Lake, ND, and Chad (Diane), Powers Lake, ND; sisters, Vicki (Danny) Osterbrink, Powers Lake, ND, Kim Velo, Williston, ND, Laurie Hysjulien, Minot, ND and Celeste (David) Edwards, Powers Lake, ND; along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Angie (Chris) Hopkins and by brothers, Lyle Marden and Eric Post. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 12, 2015 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Prayer Service at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Bruce are preferred to help others battling Leukemia and cancer.
