Nels Elmo Ellertson

Nels E. Ellertson, 101, of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 4000 Valley Square Woodside Village in Grand Forks. Nels was born July 26, 1914, in rural Niagara, ND, the son of Martin N. and Christine Ellertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Elk Valley Lutheran Church in rural McCanna, ND. He attended a one room school in Plymouth Township, worked on the family farm, graduated from high school in Orr, ND and attended UND. Nels served in the Army during WWII from Nov. 1941 until Dec. 1945. He was united in marriage to Margaret M. Morken on Dec. 27, 1950 at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. He was employed by the Agriculture Adjustment Administration and AGSCO in the sale of steel buildings. He started his own steel building business and later was joined in business by his brother, Henry. After more than 40 years in the steel building business he retired in the late 1980's. Nels particularly enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed travel with his wife and family. He was a member of University Lutheran Church, Kiwanis and the Grand Forks Builders & Traders Association of Grand Forks. Nels is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; 3 daughters, Evonne (Timothy) Skramstad of Eagan, MN, Ahna Kristi (Robert) Vincent of White Bear Lake, MN and Sonja (Dennis) Swangler of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Katie Skramstad, Nathan (Becky) Skramstad, Rachel (John) Larson, Rebekah (Daniel) Hogshead, Molly (Rev. Kyle) Magstadt, David Vincent, Peter Vincent, Audrey (Joshua) Cook and Joshua(Kayla) Swangler; great-grandchildren, Lydia Skramstad, June Magstadt and Elmer Magstadt, and sister-in-law, Betty Ellertson of Brainerd, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Grace (Olaf) Rustebakke, Mabel Ellertson, Lucille (Delmar) Bail; brothers, Orvin (Hazel) Ellertson, Lawrence (Hjordes) Ellertson and Henry Ellertson. **Memorial contributions may be directed to University Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at University Lutheran Church 2122 University Ave. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: 5:00 -7:00 p.m. with 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, Oct. 16th at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service. INTERMENT: Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
