Leonard H. Gryte, 98, formerly of Hoople, North Dakota and Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Sunday, November 1, 2015 in Maranatha Care Center, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Leonard Halvor Gryte was born to Halvor and Minnie (Folson) Gryte on October 17, 1917 at Elm Creek, Manitoba, Canada. He moved with his family to Hoople, North Dakota in 1922. Leonard attended school at Hoople and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School and attended the University of North Dakota. Leonard farmed for many years at Hoople, North Dakota. He married Lois Flugekvam on January 16, 1942. Lois died in 1981. He married LaVerne Wood in 1990 and LaVerne died in 2002. Leonard enjoyed basketball and curling, both as a player and spectator. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hoople and in 1978 became a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Grand Forks. Leonard was an active member of the Gideons International. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Karen (William) Bradford, Bonnerdale, AR; son, John (Sheri) Gryte, Blaine, MN; 4 grandchildren, Rachel Gryte, John (Esther) Howard, Tim Howard, Matt Howard; 2 great-grandchildren, Ethan Howard and Elisa Howard.; and several nieces and nephews; step-children, Harry Wood, Sr., Lori Goertzen, John Wood, Jonathan Wood and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and spouses Lois and LaVerne. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be at Hoople, North Dakota. Memorials are preferred to Faith Evangelical Free Church in Grand Forks or Gideons International.
