Terry R Helgason

Terence Randall Helgason (Terry) Terry Helgason lost his battle with cancer Saturday, November 7th at 4:00pm in his mother's home in Grand Forks surrounded by family. Terry was 65 years old. Terry Helgason was born in the small town of Gardar, ND on August 3rd, 1950. He was the first child of Magnus and Beth Helgason (Fortier), and eventually the oldest of four siblings. Terry was intelligent and thoughtful, graduating salutatorian of his high school class in 1968 from Central High School, Grand Forks. He went on to study physics at UND and later accounting in St. Paul, MN, and worked as a cost accountant for most of his career. Terry was a die-hard Green Bay Packers and UND hockey fan, but watching a game with him was sometimes difficult through all the commentary. That was part of the fun, too. Terry was the consummate big brother, offering advice and wisdom when asked with a measured and consistent message guided by what is right and what is good. Terry loved to laugh, and for those who knew him well, his dry slightly acerbic wit and unique sense of humor will be sorely missed. Terry was preceded in death by his father Magnus in 1991. Terry is survived by his mother, Beth Fortier; brothers, Leslie Helgason and Craig Helgason (Lori); and sister, Roberta Phillips (David), all of Grand Forks; nephews, Nathan Helgason (Elizabeth) of Burlingame, CA and Jordan Helgason of Grand Forks; niece, Katelyn Stratton (Michael) of Grand Forks, and four great nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
