Larry D. Humble, 68, Grand Forks, died Monday, November 16, 2015 in Valley Memorial Homes Transitional Care Unit. Larry was born in Grand Forks on September 15, 1947 to Elroy “Bud” and Ruth (Jerome) Humble. He attended St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s schools, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1966. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science and Aaker’s Business College. Larry married Susan Bondy on October 7, 1967 in Grand Forks. He served in the US Navy from 1969-1971 during which time he was deployed on a USS Will Rogers Submarine. Upon discharge from the military he was employed as a cook in several places. Larry worked for many years in sales and management at Eide Motors in Grand Forks and later at Rydell Chevrolet where he continued until he retired in July, 2015. Larry was a member of many local organizations including the Jaycees, The Chamber of Commerce Gold Medalist Committee, the Kiwanis, Central Booster Club (serving many years as President), Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, volunteered for the ND State High School Hockey Tournament for over 30 years, served as President of Forks Area Sports Association, and together with many other community members raised over two million dollars for youth programs in Grand Forks. He also started a tradition known as “Larry” Christmas at Rydells. Larry is survived by his wife, Susan, Grand Forks children Jeff Humble, Prior Lake, MN, Christine Trutnau, Jordan, MN, Angela (James) Tucker, Shakopee, MN; grandchildren Ashlee, Lindsey, Connor, Kallie, Cody, Casey, Kortney, Lukas, and Brody; his mother, Ruth Humble, Grand Forks; mother-in-law, Pauline Bondy, Grand Forks; siblings, Mike (Cindy), Grand Forks, Bob (Barb), Grand Forks, Jerry (Mardell), Grand Forks, Mark (Jane) Grand Forks, Dennis (Cindy), West Fargo, ND, Brad (Tami) Warroad, MN, David (Shiela), Sioux Falls, SD, and Michelle Crowe, Kennewick, WA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Elroy “Bud” Humble, and father-in-law, Gordon Bondy. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 in University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday, November 20, 2015 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd ST., Grand Forks. Interment and military honors presented by the North Dakota Army National Guard and Grand Forks DAV Chapter #2 will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. The family prefers memorials be directed to University Lutheran Church, or the American Diabetes Association.
