Robert Henry Schnell

Robert Schnell, 80, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks following a stroke after surgery. Robert “Bob” was born November 17, 1935, in Grand Forks, the son of Roy & Ruth Schnell.  He grew up in Grand Forks and attended Washington Elementary, Central High School and UND. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1954, served three years in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1958.  After his return he served 32 years as an air traffic controller at control towers in Kansas City, MO, and Grand Forks. Robert enjoyed bowling, golf, playing card games, dancing, watching football and hockey, and piloting small air planes. He married the love of his life, Ellie, on February 15, 1991.  They loved to take cruises, bus tours and have seen every state and Canada from coast to coast as well as Mexico, numerous Caribbean islands and foreign countries. Bob was a lifetime member of VFW Post #3817 in East Grand Forks, the Civil Aeronautics Association, several bowling leagues, and the Faith Evangelical Free Church Primetimers Bible Study group, and regularly attended Faith Evangelical Free Church. Robert is survived by his wife, Ellie Lykken-Littlejohn; daughter, Teresa Schnell of Raytown, MO; five step-daughters, Sharyn (Roger) Krsnak, Susan (Charles) Ault, Wanda (John) Schmisek, Lisa (Mark) Allen and Stacey (Tim) Rygh; 26 grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Riverside Christian School in East Grand Forks. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 30 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks. Visitation:  the hour prior to the service at Amundsons.  MILITARY HONORS:  N.D.
