Joel Scott Bergland

September 21, 1969 — November 27, 2015

Joel Scott Bergland, 46, of  Moorhead, MN, passed away at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND on Friday, November 27, 2015 after a tough battle recovering from heart surgery. Joel was born September 21, 1969 in Grand Forks, ND to Charles and Arlene (Halvorson) Bergland.  He graduated as an honor student from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1988, then from UND with degrees in Art and Advertising.  During college he was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors.  Treatment and radiation followed at Mayo Clinic.  The tumors were shrunk but destroyed his pituitary gland.  Joe worked several jobs before he found one that used his creativity and artist’s eye.  After moving to Perham he worked for ADA Printing, Allegro Marketing, Perham Focus, and then Arvig Communications where he was a web designer.  Joe’s interests included art, drums, music, photography, and movies.  He liked making people laugh and was just a wonderful, compassionate, generous human being.  He loved his family, Texas Hold ‘em, shooting pool, and campfires at the lake.  He was preceded in death by his father Charlie Bergland,  who died in 2013.  He is survived by his mother, Arlene, Perham;  sister, Kari Bergland, Perham; brother, Chad (Kaylynn) Bergland, East Grand Forks;  nephew, Nick Delaney, Fargo;  niece, Whitney Delaney, St. Paul; step-nephew, Nick Boushee, Riverside, CA; step-niece, Lacy Boushee, Grand Forks. Memorial Services will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015 in Bygland Lutheran Church, Bygland, Minnesota.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church.  Inurnment will follow in the Bygland Cemetery.  Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks is in charge of arrangements.
