Mark Sivertson

May 11, 1955 — November 29, 2015

Mark A. Sivertson, 60, of Grand Forks ND passed Sunday, November 29 peacefully in his sleep at home.  Mark Alan Sivertson was born May 5, 1955 at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks ND, the son of Alfred Ingvold and Violet Mae (Smith) Sivertson.  He was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church and attended West Elementary, Valley Junior High, and graduated from Grand Forks Central in 1973.  Mark married Debra Ann Moore on May 7, 1977 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Emerado, ND.  Together they had two sons, Justin and Mathew, whom they raised in Grand Forks. Mark began his career with Amtrak immediately following high school; He started as the station janitor and worked his way to station manager.  He retired in June of 2015 after 42 years of service.  In his free time, Mark enjoyed snowmobile riding, bowling, coaching youth hockey, watching Bob Vila, The New Yankee Workshop, NCIS, among others, as well as working with his hands, ice fishing and hunting, and had been an active member of the Blue Line Club in Grand Forks.  Yet his true passion in life was fishing and supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors; musical, academic and sporting.  He was a fixture of both his son’s as well as his grandchildren’s hockey games and could be heard both on the ice and throughout the arena with his booming and ever present voice.  Mark is survived by his wife, Debra; sons, Justin (Jessica) and Mathew; sister, Evelyn Boushee; and brother, Gary (Joni) Sivertson, all of Grand Forks; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Camden, Zachary, Rory, Gillian, Gunner, Olivia and Easton.  Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Violet, and his brother Glenn.  Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2015 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks.
