William E. Fichtner

March 7, 1930 — November 30, 2015

William “Bud” Emmanuel Fichtner passed away November 30, 2015, at 4000 Valley Square Oakcrest Unit after a long battle with Parkinson’s. William was born March 7, 1930, in East Grand Forks, MN, by a midwife, the son of August & Elizabeth Fichtner.  He attended rural grade school and one year at Park River before taking over the farming due to his father’s death.  He married Janice Hanson on Sept. 18, 1955 at the Holmes United Methodist Church in Reynolds, ND.  William served on many boards including the Emerado School Board, Holmes Church, Farm Bureau and 4-H leader for the Emerado Cubs.  William enjoyed watching and playing softball which was his favorite pastime.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, family picnics and playing with his granddaughter when she was young. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice; son, Terry Fichtner of Emerado; daughter, Lorie (Mark) Johnson of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter, Kristen (Jason) Slate; great-granddaughter, Madison of Vancouver, WA; sisters, Anne Fichtner,  Esther (Hugh) Ewart all of Portland, OR, and Viola Miller of Southampton, NJ and several nieces and nephews. William is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tod Allan Fichtner; siblings, Della Odegard, Amelia Melville, Emma Pike, Polly Kobilka, Eleanor Futscher and Fred Fichtner. **In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holmes United Methodist Church, 4000 Valley Homes or a charity of your choice. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at Holmes United Methodist Church in rural Reynolds, ND. VISITATION: One hour prior to the memorial service and will continue after the service in the church. INURNMENT:  (Spring 2016) Holmes United Methodist Church Cemetery
