Carol Krogh passed away at home in Grand Forks on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 83 years old. Carol Joanne Foster was born in Moline, Illinois on July 22, 1932, the eldest daughter of Lloyd and Alice Foster, second-generation German immigrants. She was born on her father’s birthday. Carol graduated from Moline High School and attended Augustana College, where she met the love of her life, Don Krogh. They married in 1954 and began their 53-year adventure together, settling in Omaha, Nebraska, and later retiring to Chandler, Arizona. They traveled the world and had a close circle of friends, including many who followed them to Arizona. Carol was a true Renaissance woman. In addition to being an outstanding wife and mother, she was a world-class seamstress and an accomplished weaver. Carol devoted much of her time to charitable activities, was active in Daughters of the Nile for many years, and later served as a volunteer docent at the Chandler Historical Society, a role for which she was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2006. Along the way, she was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and an active volunteer at Calvary Lutheran Church (Omaha) and Risen Savior Lutheran Church (Chandler). She loved music and tirelessly nurtured her children’s musical talents, and she particularly enjoyed attending her three grandchildren’s concerts after moving to Grand Forks, North Dakota in 2012. Reading was a life-long passion, and Carol was a weekly library patron. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband. She is survived by her son, David, his wife, Larissa, and their three children, Julia, Isabel, and Aiden, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, her daughter, Kathryn Herbst, and husband, Dave, of Richmond, Virginia, and sister, Janet Luse, and husband Tom, of Moline, Illinois, as well as two nieces. She had a wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor and often remarked that her life had turned out to be "fabulous beyond all expectations.” She will be deeply missed by both her family and her friends at Parkwood Assisted Living, where she resided for the past 3-1/2 years. Private memorial services will be held in the spring at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Chandler, Arizona. The family wishes to thank her caregivers from Comfort Keepers and Parkwood for their compassionate care in Carol’s final weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carol’s name to the Northern Valley Youth Orchestra, 311 S. 4th St., Suite 204, of Grand Forks, ND
