Dale Harshman Hunter, 84, of Gilby, ND, peacefully passed from this life, on December 19, 2015, surrounded by his family. Dale was born to William Alvin & Julia Grace (Harshman) Hunter on December 21, 1930, in Grand Forks, ND. He grew up on a farm in the Gilby area and graduated from High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Army from Feb. 1951- Feb. 1954, serving in the Japanese Occupation and Korean Conflict. The final 14 months was served at Fort Lewis, WA. Dale completed a 2 year Business Administration course at Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks. He married Vivian D. Bogert on July 16, 1955, and they enjoyed traveling and gardening together. In August of 1956, he started working for Valley Bank & Trust Company in Gilby and worked for 35 years, retiring in the end of 1991. He served the City of Gilby for 16 years as Mayor and on City Council and was also Secretary-Treasurer of the Gilby Rural Fire Dept. for 14 years. Vivian died in 1997. Dale was a member of the Gilby Presbyterian Church and the Gilby American Legion for over 60 years. Dale is survived by his sister, Dorothy Lundgren; aunt, Liz Hunter and her son Duane, stepdaughter, Renny Hagen and step granddaughters, Valerie and Allison; nieces & nephews, Darlene Hughes, Denise Hunter, Donald Hunter, Debra Close, Diane Carlson, Denelle Hunter, Darrin Hunter, Mike Bogert, Mark Bogert, Jeff Bogert, Linda LaPlante, Charles Bogert, Suzanne Shear, Michelle Bogert, Steve Bogert, and Bonnie McCulley and many cousins, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother, Dennis, and nephew, Craig Lundgren. FUNERAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2013 at Gilby Presbyterian Church in Gilby, ND. VISITATION: Tuesday, December 22 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7pm prayer service at the church in Gilby. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
