Robert G. Lander

  Robert G. Lander, 91, Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Robert was born July 2, 1924 in Grand Forks, the son of Miles and Miriam (Yoder) Lander. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1942. He attended the University of North Dakota before entering the U. S. Army on May 12, 1943. Robert served in the Pacific Theater with the 163rd infantry before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on January 10, 1946. Robert moved to Waterloo, IA where he met Patricia Dixon. They were married On July 9, 1948 in Waterloo. They moved to Grand Forks where Robert was a 3rd generation member of the E. J. Lander & Company, serving as Vice President, along with his brother Edward. Robert served as President of the Board of Realtors in Grand Forks and as Chairman of the North Dakota Real Estate Commission. He was a past Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce President and served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Park District. He was President of the Grand Forks Jaycees, President of the Board of Directors of the YMCA and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Y. Bob was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks. Robert and Patricia spent many years together at their lake home on Lake Bemidji, Bemidji, MN and spent winter months in Marco Island, FL, before Patricia died on August 25, 2010. Survivors include, sons: Christopher (Cindy) Lander, Thompson, ND, David (Pamela) Lander, East Wenatchee, WA, and Thomas (Karen)  Lander, Grand Forks; Daughter, Kathleen Lander, St. Paul, MN; Grandchildren, Scott (April) Lander, Denver, CO, Kelly (Brian) Cofer, Lakeville, MN, Thomas Lander, Jr., Phoenix, AZ,  Elizabeth (Kyle) Taylor, Stillwater, MN,  Ryan (Mary) Moore, Minneapolis, MN,  Nicholas Lander, Grand Forks,  and Andrew Lander, Los Angeles, CA; Great Grandchildren, Nickolas Cofer, Katherine Cofer. Lauren Cofer, Duncan Lander, Emma Moore and Walter Taylor;two nieces and eight nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward, Sister-in-Law Barbara Lander, grandson, John Dixon Lander and a great grandson, Mac Lander Moore. The family would like to thank Home Care Companions for the wonderful care their dad received, especially Lisa Aarhus for her loving and compassionate care over a number of years. A Memorial Service will take place on 11:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2016 in the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks, ND. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception and lunch served at the church.
