Benton Merle “Jack” Harris, 70 years old of rural Emerado, N.D., departed this life with comfort and peace on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at home. Jack was born February 10, 1945 in Lamoni, IA to parents Harvey and Gail Harris. He joined the USAF in 1962. He joined “to see the world” and his first Base assignment was 150 miles from home! On May 10, 1964 he was joined in marriage to Ellen Renee Long, in Lamoni, IA. During his 20 years in the Air Force he did get to see the world – Turkey, Viet Nam, and Italy as well as many Bases in the United States. After retirement in 1982 he held various jobs and retired from Civil Service in 2005. He was husband to Ellen for 51 years and they had 2 daughters. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed his grandchildren, especially teaching them to garden and fish. Jack is survived by his wife Ellen of the home, daughters Gayla Powell (Chris) of Grand Forks, N.D. and Jackie Boise (Ken) of San Antonio, TX.; grandchildren: Zack Powell of Grand Forks, N.D., Ashley Harris of San Antonio, TX, Hayley Powell of Grand Forks, N.D., Brandon Boise and Kayla Boise of San Antonio, TX.; and great-grandchildren: Alex and Taylor Powell of Larimore, N.D. and JonConner and Ryan Burt of San Antonio, TX.Jack was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 sisters-in-law.
