Jerome Sorum

July 7, 1925 — February 2, 2016

Jerome R. “Jerry” Sorum, 90, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Jerome Richard Sorum was born July 7, 1925 in Crookston, MN to Jesse and Mabel (Hagberg) Sorum. He attended school in Holt, MN and Central High School in Grand Forks. He served in the U. S. Army as a cook in the Southern Philippines and in the Western Pacific during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Grand Forks and resumed his employment for the Great Northern Railway.  He retired as a conductor from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 40 years of service in 1986. Jerry loved spending time with family and friends. He always had a good story or joke to share. He was an excellent cook and baker with pies being a specialty.  He also enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and in Canada. Jerry married Lois R. Wolsky of Kensal, ND on December 31, 1949. She passed away on January 30, 2014. Survivors include his sons, Jayson (Roxann) Sorum and Gregory (Jodi) Sorum, both of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Michael, Abby, Jesse, Jake and Jimmy; brothers, Lyle Sorum and Donald Sorum. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois; brothers, Ronald and John and by his sister, Jean Beauchamp. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
