Maurie A. Steiner, 67, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Maurie Alan Steiner, the son of Glenn and Esther (Fundingsland) Steiner was born July 28, 1948 at Crookston, Minnesota. He graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1966. He attended some college in Crookston and then served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Maurie was employed by American Crystal Sugar Beet Plant in Crookston from 1971-1977. He moved to Grand Forks and was employed in several positions including custodian at Grand Cities Mall until 1997 when he retired due to disability. Maurie was a Boy Scout during high school. His interests included cats, raising rabbits, John Wayne movies, watching Minnesota Twins Baseball and Minnesota Wild Hockey, and he was an avid bowler before his disability. He is survived by a brother, Les Steiner, Roseville, MN; a niece, Molly (Ryan) Nielsen and their children, Isaiah, Josiah, Keziah and Lydiah; nephew, Matt (Danielle) Steiner and their children, Ethan, Zoe and Lilly; and his companion cat “Shasta”. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Kathy Steiner and Marilyn Steiner; sister-in-law, Fran; nephew, Jason. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, Minnesota later in the spring.
