Vivian Dohman

July 31, 1920 — February 27, 2016

Vivian Dohman, 95, died February 27th, 2016 at home surrounded by family.      Vivian Vernice Hughes was born the 31st of July, 1920, to Charles and Theresa Hughes in East Grand Forks, MN, the second of four children. She graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1937 and following teachers training taught in a one room schoolhouse. She met Walter Dohman roller skating at the Grand Forks Fairgrounds Pavilion. They were married on October 23rd, 1941 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks and upon her marriage she converted to Catholicism which she embraced and cherished for the rest of her life. During the war years they resided in Seattle, Washington where Walter worked at the Associated Shipyards. They returned to Grand Forks in 1945 where they raised their family. Vivian loved to read, crochet and do the NY Times crossword puzzle. She was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.Vivian loved her family unconditionally and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her sons, William (Ila) of Fergus Falls, MN, their children, Mark (Michelle) and Scott (Tyna); Thomas of Grand Forks, ND; James of Grand Forks, ND, and child Zachary (Jess); daughters, Beverly Bennett of Philadelphia, PA, her children, William and Karen (John) Heaney; Judith (Stephen) Mullally of Grand Forks, ND, their children, Teresa (Michael) Orr, Matthew (Sonia), Nathaniel (Jen), Caitlin (Brayden) Trontvet; Marilyn Moon of Grand Forks, ND, her children, Eric (Holly), David and William. She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren, her sister Jean (Jack) Dove of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents, brothers Roy and Archie, and grandson Michael Dohman. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3rd at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery of Grand Forks at a later date. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. www.amundsonfuneralhome.com
