Fran Sundre

Frances “Fran” Emma Sundre, 83, Grand Forks, died March 23, 2016 in her daughter’s home. Frances was born April 12, 1932 to Albert and Frances (Slacik) Cerney in Selfridge, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Selfridge High School. She moved away soon after graduation. She gave birth to a daughter in February of 1957. With much sadness, she gave her up for adoption, but she felt at that time that it was the only option that she had. She met Clayton in the latter part of 1958. He made it known that if he would have known Fran when she was pregnant, she never would have given her up for adoption. They married in April 1960 and had a daughter in 1965. The marriage ended in 1970. In 2000, Fran got to be reunited with Diane, the daughter she had given up for adoption. Diane became a part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters Diane and Debbie. In August of 2013, Debbie moved back to Grand Forks to be near her mother and over the next 2 1/2 years they spent a good amount of time together which was thoroughly enjoyed by both. Fran and Debbie bonded over football and Fran would proudly say that her favorite team was the Vikings. Her favorite players were # 28, Adrian Peterson and # 5, Teddy Bridgewater. Those who knew Fran knew that she was a very special person. She considered everyone her friend and always seemed to remember everyone with a card on their birthday or for Christmas. She passed away peacefully, knowing that she was loved by many. Her brother Eugene mysteriously vanished on June 9, 2000. No trace of him has ever been found. This bothered her greatly. Now she can be at peace knowing. Fran is survived by her daughters: Deb (Dean Willson) Werner, Grand Forks; Diane Hellman, San Clemente, CA; her brother Franklin, Staples, MN; 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her newest great granddaughter who is due to arrive May 29; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charles. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
