Clifton E. Waslien, 95, Grand Forks, ND, died Friday, March 25, 2016 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks. Clifton Ellingson Waslien was born December 28, 1920 in Cummings, ND, the son of Hans and Carrie (Ellingson) Waslien. He was raised and educated at Cummings and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1938. Clifton worked in the Cummings area until entering the U. S. Army in November of 1942. He served as a medic and was in the first wave of infantry to storm the beach in Normandy, France on D-Day. Clifton also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged from the Army in September of 1945. He returned home to Cummings, ND and worked for an oil company and for Sheer Painting until going to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. At the same time he independently operated his business, Cliff’s Painting and Staining. Clifton married Lois Bratager on December 17, 1947 in Salem Lutheran Church of Cummings, ND. She died June 3, 2012. Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Omdahl, Fargo, ND; sons, Lorry (Kathy) Waslien, Grand Forks, ND, Lon Waslien, Fargo, ND, LaMonte (LeAnn) Waslien, Buford, GA and Kirk (Dawn) Waslien, Buxton, ND.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Burton, Kari (Jeremy) Jensen, Sarah (Christopher) Brown, Nicholas Waslien (Rachael Mullins), Andy, Brady and Cody Waslien, and Jason Hamilton; great grandchildren, Abby, Jada, Jace, Miles and Lana. Clifton was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and by a brother, Harlem. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in the Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery of Cummings, ND.
