Kathleen Lofthus

October 9, 1919 — March 27, 2016

Kathleen Lofthus, 96, of Grand Forks passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Kathleen was born October 9, 1919, the daughter of David & Jeanette (Harvey) Samson in Glasgow, MT.  She graduated from Gilby High School in 1937 and attended UND and Valley City Teacher’s College where she received her BA degree in Education. She taught in New Salem, ND and Belmont School in Grand Forks before moving to Great Falls, MT.  While in Great Falls she married Clifford Lofthus July 6, 1946.  In 1948, they returned to North Dakota making their home in Gilby.  She was a homemaker for several years before returning to teaching.  Clifford died in 1981.  Kathleen moved to Grand Forks in 2002 and worked with the Foster Grandparent program for 9 years. She respected her Scottish heritage and faithfully served the Gilby Presbyterian Church for many years.  She enjoyed baking - thousands of pieces of lefse – as well as sewing and quilting.  She influenced the education of numerous children. Kathleen is survived by her children, Lynda Kubousek, Phyllis (Mike) Pederson, Joanne (Tom) Durkin and Rita (Doug) Noetzel; sister, Mary Blakesly;  7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; 3 brothers, Donald, Frank & George; 2 sisters, Ruth & Florence and son-in-law, Allen Kubousek. FUNERAL SERVICES:  2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Gilby Presbyterian Church in Gilby, ND. VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
