Harley "Chip" Lind

October 11, 1947 — April 1, 2016

Harley A. “Chip” Lind, 68, Grand Forks, ND, died Friday, April 1, 2016 in his home. Harley Andrew Lind was born October 11, 1947 in Warren, MN the son of Helmer and Amy (Lundell) Lind. He graduated from high school in Newfolden, MN, and from college in Thief River Falls, MN. Chip married Judi Larson in Badger, MN in 1966.   Chip moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where he began his career working for North Central Airlines. He later moved to Grand Forks where he continued working as Customer Service Representative for Republic Airlines, which later became Northwest Airlines.  Chip married Katherine Crocker on September 24, 1983 in Aneta, ND.   Chip had numerous hobbies and interests outside of work. He was a farm boy at heart, and cherished spending time at his hobby farm near Newfolden, MN, especially after his retirement from the airline industry after 42 years of service. One of his greatest joys was heirloom vegetable seeds and his large vegetable garden. He loved sharing each fall’s harvest with family and friends. Chip loved being a grandpa! He treasured his time with Shae and Brodie. Building forts and roads in the dirt for matchbox cars was just as much fun for him as it was for the kids. He liked taking them on adventures from the backyard to the farm, teaching them about each discovery they made of bugs, plants and animals, tractors and trucks.   He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter who especially enjoyed deer hunting. Chip had a great interest in sports. He played softball, and later was a women’s softball coach in Grand Forks and Thompson for many years. He was a dedicated UND sports fan, especially when it came to Fighting Sioux Hockey.   Kathy survives along with Chip’s son, Shane (Pam) Lind, North Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Ashley (Chris) Decker, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Shae and Brodie Decker; and brother, Del (Margaret) Lind, Savage, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.   Chip was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and his mother-in-law. Memorial Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church.
