Chet Filipski, age 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in East Grand Forks, MN on May 4, 2016. He was born the son of Chester and Josphine (Kitlas) Filipski on September 18, 1944. Chet grew up in Scranton, PA, graduating from Scranton Tech in 1962. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Chet was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded two Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. On June 8, 1968 he was united in marriage to Mary Thompson in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Chet worked at the Grand Forks Post Office. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. After retiring, he began his love of chasing a white ball around a green course. Due to his competitive nature, his best scores were achieved when he played with his son. Chet enjoyed going to the local veterans clubs and visiting with his many friends. Mr. Filipski is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two children, Kristin Filipski of Lincoln, NE and Chad (Joy) Filipski of East Grand Forks, MN; and a sister, Joan Filipski, Scranton, PA. He was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer, his parents, and sister, Sylvia Merrick. A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 9, 2016 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before Mass in the church. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard. Following the Mass, there will be a reception and lunch at the East Grand Forks Eagle's Club.
