Skyler Olivia Syrup

February 23, 1998 — May 5, 2016

Skyler Olivia Syrup was born February 23, 1998, in Grand Forks, the daughter of Steve & Jodi King Syrup.  She was joined by a sister, Amelia three years later.  She attended Kelly Elementary, Schroeder Middle School and finally Red River High School where she was to graduate with honors on June 5, 2016.  She died at home on May 5, 2016, at the age of 18. She had a love of all sports and was passionate about and excelled in volleyball, where she was an amazing middle hitter with a powerful hit and block.  No one was more dedicated to improving themselves and the team than Skyler.  She had a very silly side with a contagious laugh, and whenever a situation was supposed to be serious, she’d always seem to make people laugh.  She was able to laugh at herself, along with teammates and coaches on the bus to tournaments.  She was also on the track team and qualified for state again.  Being fit and healthy was important to her. She was an honor student at RRHS and had been accepted into the University of North Dakota for the Fall Semester. She had joined the ND National Guard, and said, “They’ll pay me to work out?  Of course I’ll join!”  She was already known as a great soldier and genuine friend who cared deeply for her peers and was always willing to talk. Skyler was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, cousin and friend.  She did not go a day without eating chocolate, totally earning her nickname, “Chocobomb”.  She was a stunningly beautiful person, both inside and out, and a totally loyal and devoted friend.  She brightened the lives of all who were touched by her smile and will be terribly missed every day forever by the countless people who love her. Left to mourn her passing include her parents Steve & Jodi; sister, Amelia all of Grand Forks.  Also many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends survive her.
