George K. Staveteig, 85, Thompson, ND, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Valley Memorial Homes, Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND. George was born on the family farm near Thompson on May 27, 1930, the son of Ole and Mable (Stundahl) Staveteig. He attended Walle #77 country school and graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks. George married Elizabeth (O’Hearn) on December 2, 1950, in Grand Forks. He farmed in the Grand Forks area with his brothers and later his son. George had a passion for camping and fishing, square dancing, and wood carving. He was active in his church, served as a 4-H leader and a Grand Forks County Commissioner. He was a member of the ELKS and EAGLES. George is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) and children, Timothy (Catherine Neste), Cleveland, OH, Rebecca (John) Schmidt, Minneapolis, MN, Bev (Kelly) Tompers, Bozeman, MT, and David (Brenda Fuerstenberg), Thompson, ND; brothers Lloyd (Beulah), Robert, and sisters Lorraine Amundson, and Deloris Landerville, all of Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Muir, Hallock, MN. He was preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn (Chris) Wansbutter; son, Dale; great-grandson Alexander Hegg; a brother and sister-in-law, Ervin (Ruth) Staveteig; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Staveteig; brothers-in-law, Byron Amundson, Tannis Sanden, and Leo Landerville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St. Grand Forks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 with a 6:45 p.m. Prayer Service, Friday, May 13, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the service in the church.
