Lydell Sannes

Lydell Dean Sannes, 73, Thompson, ND, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. Lydell was born October 9, 1942 in Grand Forks, ND and was raised on the family farm near Thompson, ND. He was the son of Ernest and Louise (Amble) Sannes.  Lydell graduated from Thompson High School and then attended the University of North Dakota where he received his teaching degree.  After college, he was in the United State Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain.    After his military service he taught High School Science. He taught at many schools including the Grand Forks Air Base, Valley Middle School, and Thompson High School.  Lydell began Farming with his brother in 1980 after his father retired. In 1997, Lydell retired from farming and returned to teaching at Thompson High School. One of Lydell’s many passions in life was breeding and raising Arabian horses.  He was honored with some of the highest achievements with his horse breeding. He raised  Canadian and United States Grand National Champion Horses. Lydell also loved antiques.  He had many antique cars that he enjoyed taking to car shows and discussing the history of them with the enthusiasts.  He was also a collector of household antiques and enjoyed displaying them for his guests.  Lydell was never married and had no children.  He is survived by his twin brother Ardell (Elvira Thompson), Thompson, ND and a sister Eunice (Bruce) Bohlman, Grand Forks, ND.  He is also survived by a nephew, Joel Sannes, Thompson, ND and a niece Susie (Robert) Griggs, Bemidji, MN. Lydell was preceded in death by his Parents and a nephew Erick Bohlman. Memorial Service:  will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 in East Walle Lutheran Church, Rural Thompson, ND.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND  Inurnment will be in East Walle Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Circle of Friends Humane Society in Grand Forks.
