James Haugen

James D. “Jim” Haugen, 79, Grand Forks,  died Sunday, July 3, 2016 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, surrounded by his family. James Dale Haugen, the son of Gust and Pearl (Goplin) Haugen  was born July 17, 1936, at Newfolden, Minnesota.  He was raised and educated in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954.  He served in the US Army National Guard.  James Haugen and Dianne Olson were united in marriage on October 12, 1957 at Rockford, Illinois.  They lived in Beloit, Wisconsin and Rockford, Illinois prior to moving to Grand Forks in 1969.  Jims working career began with Fuller Brush Company, then he fueled and cleaned airplanes for Hertzog Aviation.  He was employed in sales at Lunde Truck Sales at Rockford, Illinois and continued his work in truck sales at the International Harvester Truck Dealership in Grand Forks until he retired in 1998. Jim was a man of great faith and was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church for over 25 years.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing for walleyes at Lake of the Woods. His recent favorite hobby was playing Farkle and Sequence during laughter-full evenings with family and friends.   He  was a devoted family man with lots of smiles and hugs, and is survived by his wife, Dianne, Grand Forks;  sons, Greg (Tammy) Haugen, Boise, Idaho, Kevin (Janet) Haugen, Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, and Doug (Susie), Acworth, Georgia;  two  dear grandchildren, William and Kristin;  a brother, Jack (Carol) Haugen, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota;  sister, Laurie (Rude), Duluth, Minnesota;  and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William, Thomas, and Jerry. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Augustana Lutheran Church, 520 University Ave., Grand Forks.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the service in the church.   Memorials are preferred to Augustana Lutheran Church.
