Gladys L. Chase, 86, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Gladys Lucille Johnson was born June 22, 1930, in Stanley, ND, the daughter of Fred and Alma (Haugen) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Stanley, ND. Gladys married Robert Chase on August 19, 1950, in Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanley, and moved to Grand Forks shortly thereafter. Gladys was down to earth, caring, and charitable. She was a giving mother who was very involved in her children’s activities and in the school PTA. Gladys volunteered for many years at the Rehab gift shop and later worked at the United Hospital gift shop. She was also a volunteer at voting polls in Grand Forks. Gladys was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks where she remained an instrumental part of the congregation. She called on communion servers and was the head of the funeral lunch committee for many years. Gladys was also a talented lefse maker and furniture refinisher. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Myong) Chase, El Paso, TX, Dick (Mary) Chase, Seattle, WA, Tom (Teresa) Chase, Bismarck, ND, Becky Lutz (Scott Bahde), Freeport, IL, and Bill (Laurie) Chase, Grand Forks; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chase on September 6, 2000; and by siblings, Marcella, Dorothy, George, Milford, Ernie, Ileen and several infant siblings. Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, July 14, 2016, in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks. Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church or to The American Cancer Society.
