Elizabeth Pauley

Elizabeth “Bette” Pauley, 84, Grand Forks, died Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Valley Memorial Homes.   Elizabeth Mary Armstrong, the daughter of Albert Armstrong and Helen (Patterson) Armstrong, was born August 13, 1931 in Fort Garry, Manitoba, Canada.  She was raised and educated in Winnipeg.  She worked for the Canadian military at Ft. Osborne where she met Billy Pauley, an American GI stationed in Winnipeg.  They were married on June 8, 1957.  Through their military years they lived in several locations throughout the United States as well as Germany.  They retired in Grand Forks in 1971 to be closer to family in Winnipeg and to enjoy time at both Grand Beach and Matlock, Manitoba. Bette was a homemaker who worked various jobs as her children were growing up but was most proud of returning to school in her early 50’s and becoming a Certified Health Unit Coordinator.  She worked at United Hospital until her retirement.  She was also proud of becoming a US Citizen in September 2002. Bette was an avid bowler and sports fan (Go TWINS!).   She was known for her baking, especially her chocolate chip cookies and buns.  Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Billy, Grand Forks;  daughters, Judi Marvin (Bill), Grand Forks;  Brenda Pauley-Colter (John Colter), Grand Forks;  grandchildren, Doug West, Erin West, Patrick Colter, Eric Colter, Anna Colter-Bonn;  sisters, Minnie Kish, Thelma Levesque (Romeo), Helen McIntyre (Roger), all of Winnipeg;  sister-in-law, Loretta Davis (Leo), Dayton, Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Johnny Kish.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 with a 6:30 p.m. Memorial Service in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.  Memorials are preferred to the Circle of Friends Humane Society.
