Robert Earl Nygaard

Robert E (Bob) Nygaard went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2016.  He passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Bob was born in Grand Forks North Dakota January 26, 1932 to Oscar C. and Mollie (Ferguson) Nygaard. He was raised in Grand Forks and attended school graduating from Central High School in 1950 and the University of North Dakota in 1957 He was drafted into the Army August 20 1952 and a upon completion of basic training attended the radar and guided missile school in Fort Bliss, Texas. Upon graduation he was sent to the Hanford Atomic Energy Works at Camp Hanford Washington.  It was there he met the love of his life Colleen Peoples. Bob was honorably discharged August 20, 1954 and Bob and Colleen were married in Coeur’d Alene, Idaho December 24, 1954, Colleen's home town. Bob and Colleen had three sons; Brad, Richard, and John (Terry); four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After a 30 year career with the Social Security Administration Bob retired and spent five years as recorder for Kem Temple of the shrine. Bob was very active in the Masonic fraternity serving in many offices and receiving many honors. He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a 65 year member of the fraternity.  He also was a member of the Grand Forks DAV Chapter #2 and East Grand Forks, MN American Legion Post #157. Bob loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and traveling with Colleen. They covered most of North America including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Colleen, his parents, his sister Ruth Parker, brother- in- law Roger Parker, and daughter-in law- Marilyn Nygaard. **Memorial contributions may be made to the ND Scottish Rite Foundation or the Kem Temple Red Fez Fund. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at Wesley United Methodist 1600 4th Ave N.  Grand Forks. VISITATION: Wednesday, July 27 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30p.m. Masonic Service and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. INURNMENT: Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
