Alice J. Pierce

April 22, 1931 — July 30, 2016

Alice Jane Tyler Pierce (85) passed away July 30, 2016 after a brief illness. Alice was born April 22, 1931, the only child of Arnold and Bernice Tyler in Augusta, Maine.  She graduated from Cony High School in 1949 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Colby College in 1953, earning induction into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society.  In the summer of 1948, she was working in the library in Augusta when she met her future husband, Thomas Pierce, who was playing baseball for the Augusta Millionaire’s baseball team. They were married in 1953. Tom and Alice made their first home in Philadelphia while Tom finished his medical degree.  In 1959 they moved to Carrabelle, Florida where Tom started his medical practice and where their two sons were born. In 1969, they moved back to Maine, where Alice managed Tom’s solo medical practice in Pittsfield, Maine. Alice was an avid gardener.  Her grandchildren have fond memories of helping their Grandmother in her big garden during their summer visits to Maine.  She also taught them how to properly clean and eat lobster. Alice is survived by her husband of 62 years and their two sons, Thomas Jr (spouse, Ann Elliott) and David Pierce (spouse, Karin Lokensgard Pierce) as well as 3 grandchildren, Bethany, Joshua, and Daniel Pierce. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date in Maine.
