Avis Borst

Avis J. Borst, 81, of Grand Forks passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Larimore, ND.   Avis was born February 8, 1935 in Stanley, ND, daughter of Ole and Margaret LeRohl. She grew up and attended school in Ross, ND. She was united in marriage to Melvin Borst December 27, 1953. They were blessed with six children and have lived in Grand Forks for 51 years.  She is survived by her husband, Melvin of 63 years; her children Barbara Galloway, Wichita, KS, Janet Fish (Steve) Joanne Graves (Tom), Alan (Betty) and Arden (Wanda), all of Grand Forks; and son-in-law Rod Kahler of Fargo, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and brother Kenneth LeRohl of Lisbon, ND.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beverly Kahler; her brother, Harlow LeRohl and sister Donna Bokn.  Avis will be remembered as a selfless and altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile, even through difficult times. She had a quiet strength about herself and always looked for the good in others. As much as we will miss her, we celebrate her life anew.  In lieu flowers, our family would encourage donations to Hospice of the Red River Valley, who have helped care for her tirelessly through her long battle with lung cancer.  Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Amundson Funeral Home , 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, with Pastor Janna Kontz officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.   Burial will be at Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
