Elizabeth Alvarado

March 18, 1943 — August 24, 2016

Elizabeth Alvarado, 73, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Elizabeth Opamin, the daughter of Celino Opamin and Asuncion (Dalaguete) Opamin was born at Tuboran, Cebu, Philippines.   Elizabeth married Buenaventura Alvarado where they raised three daughters in a small Filipino town. Elizabeth had the opportunity to travel all over the globe and see new places. During her travels, Elizabeth visited family members and created new friendships. As Elizabeth traveled, she took many pictures. These photos are what she was known for. There was never a time where Elizabeth did not have a camera on her ready to take the perfect shot. When Elizabeth was home, she would often attend auctions with her very close companion Bob Entze. Their friendship spanned over 20 years and it was very rare that you would see the one without the other. Family was one of the most important things to Elizabeth. She was always calling and visiting aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Whenever there were gatherings, Elizabeth was at the center of them. Elizabeth was the matriarch for many people within the community and it showed when everyone gathered together.   Elizabeth is survived by  her daughters, Jasmin Alvarado, Christchurch, New Zealand, Joy Pollot, Grand Forks, ND, and Josephine Alvarado, Grand Forks, ND;  grandchildren, Cathleen Pollot, Elizabeth Pollot, James Manson, Dean Manson; great grandchild, Tielo Manson; a brother, Fortunato (Celistina) Opamin, Philippines; a brother, Arthuro Opamin, Philippines; a sister, Mary (Rolando)  Cotejo;  several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and siblings, Doreko Opamin, Rosaminda Dupal-ag.  Mass of Christian Burial:  will be  11:00 a.m.  Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 520 N. 5th St., Grand Forks.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with an 8:00 p.m. Prayer Service, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the mass in the church.  The family prefers memorials to St. Michael’s Catholic Church
